Budapest: a book of two banks
Modern Budapest formed in 1873 through the union of Buda, Óbuda and Pest. Western hills and the eastern bank’s level urban fabric remained distinct. Bridges made them one everyday space rather than merely an administrative name.
The walks connect nineteenth-century architecture, destruction and rebuilding, thermal water and reused courtyards. A fictional bookbinder links the chapters without replacing historical sources. At memorials choose quiet attention rather than competitive play.
The friends’ plan included Christmas fairs, baths, a ruin bar and a train to Prague. All remain in main or optional visits. Holiday hours, tickets and age rules must be confirmed separately for the actual trip.
