Walk west from the monument across Burgplatz to the freestanding Castle Tower on the Rhine side. Stop in the open square just north of the tower; view the riverside steps from above.
The required observation is from a public area. Do not cross barriers during a temporary closure.

History
The tower survives from the former palace on Burgplatz. It now houses the Maritime Museum, connecting a courtly residence with the history of river shipping. The Rhine beyond the square explains why the city’s story extends beyond palace and church.
