Getting there

Walk south along Kettwiger Straße to Hauptbahnhof, use its public passage to the south side, then follow Huyssenallee and Goethestraße to Museumsplatz. Allow roughly half an hour without stops.
The required observation is from a public area. Do not cross barriers during a temporary closure.

History
Karl Ernst Osthaus established the Folkwang collection in Hagen; it moved to Essen in 1922. Painting, photography, prints and posters share its programme. David Chipperfield’s light-filled building opened in 2010, arranging galleries around calm courtyards.
