Getting there

Lower Kaban Lake, Kunche amphitheatre › Western promenade › Footbridge by Nazarbayeva Street › Eastern promenade › Theatre square

Turn right from the amphitheatre and follow the western shore with the water on your left. At the southern end of the lake, cross the footbridge beside Nazarbayeva Street. On the eastern shore, keep the water on your left again and walk towards the glass peaks of the new theatre at 74 Khadi Taktasha Street.

The boardwalks beneath the willows are a quiet resting place. Frame the whole theatre from the western shore, then study the individual facets from its square.

History

The triangles on Khadi Taktasha Street began on the drawing boards of the international team that won the 2022 competition. Their first clue came from Lake Kaban: under the right winter conditions, crystals bloom on it like ice flowers. The second is visible across the water in the sloping roof of the old theatre. The new building opened on 20 January 2025. Its sharp glass facets enclose four different auditoriums. At ground level, the architects designed the foyer as a passage from the street to the lake.
