History

On 5 July 2013, the day before the Summer Universiade opened, 27 couples married at the same time on the bank of the Kazanka. The number matched the 27th edition of the games, hosted that year by Kazan. They were the first couples to use the new wedding palace. Its giant kazan, or cauldron, represents the family hearth. It contains ceremony halls and has a rooftop viewing terrace facing the city centre across the river. From the waterfront, the bowl catches your eye long before you notice the doors between its supports.
