Getting there

St Lambertus Basilica › St Lambertus Basilica › City Rights Monument

Walk south from Stiftsplatz towards Burgplatz, then to the corner of Müller-Schlösser-Gasse and Josef-Wimmer-Gasse by the little Düssel. The many-figure bronze monument stands at this corner; stop on the pavement before it, without climbing down to the water.

The required observation is from a public area. Do not cross barriers during a temporary closure.

History

The sculpture beside the Düssel recalls the Battle of Worringen and the granting of town rights in 1288. Bert Gerresheim created it for the 700th anniversary. History appears as a crowded clash of people, horses and symbols rather than one ceremonial figure.
