From the university colonnade, follow Kremlyovskaya Street back towards Ushkova House and turn onto Lobachevskogo Street. Walk downhill on the pavement to Dzerzhinskogo Street. Aim for the park’s eastern entrance, marked by a white arch.

Stand at opposite ends of the arch, facing its inner surface. Whisper a word and see whether your companion can hear it.

History

This park takes its name from a real lake. In 1829 its banks began to be landscaped as a garden, with terraced slopes, turf and plantings. The lake eventually grew marshy and was filled in, but people still came for walks. A fountain opened in 1894 and a rink took its place in winter. Bandy players took to that ice in 1925, the beginning of Kazan’s Dynamo club. Today you can once again walk beside water in the park, and skate on the artificial pond in winter.
